How to make and assemble a click pen

Hi all
Have to make the Christmas presents in the next couple of days - slimline pens for most people as I'm kind of ok at them. I'm also going to make a click pen from a Crafts Supplies kit - however the brass tubes are 8mm wide instead of 7mm like the slimlines - do I need an 8mm mandrel? Also does anyone know the parts fit together?

stewart,you dont need an 8mm mandrel, all you have to do is turn each blank between centres. all you will need is a dead centre in the headstock
and a live centre in the tailstock. if you havnt got a dead centre you can easily make one from wood.
i think this is what you are after.

Just what I needed. I don't have a dead centre so I'll have to have a go at making one! Thanks for the links.
Managed to make three slimlines today and mangle two on the lathe - I think I need to make sure my drill press is running accurately as the entry hole seems a bit misshaped. Still, good fun
