Can anyone tell me how thick they normally make the lipping on veneered MDF? I know the craftsman formerly known as Dan uses this method of real wood edging but am not sure how thick it should be? This is for the Oak wardrobes job. :?

I usually go for about 6mm solid lipping, any thinner and the thicknesser can spit it out in chunks if its short grained.

It will also depend on what you intend to do with the edge`s i.e. leave them square or machine some kind of detail.

I normally use 20mm lippings; I find getting a good bond with the board is easier the thicker the lipping. I then trim them with a router.

Cheers

I would usually use a 15 -20mm solid lipping onto the veneered MDF. If I am veneering the panel myself i usually lip with about a 5mm piece and veneer over the top.

This is what i use to trim the lipping

Thanks guys, think I shall go for the 20mm as I have plenty of the Oak for it. I do use your method for trimming them Da....Alchemist. I am just trying to make them look like a solid panel and the wood seems to match the boards well just didn't want the lippings to pull of if caught.
