precisely Can it be done with these liming waxes? or what's the purpose of that wax?

Want to get an effect like this on a piece of furniture i'm making, but don't want to go down the route of watering down paint.

If it's any help,
I've Just recently finished a table, softwood base and drawer with an ash top, and ash drawer front. I used stone coloured garden paint,
Orbital sander with 60 grit, and two coats of stone, lightly de knib 2nd coat only (says on the tin) and 2 coats micro wotsit wax, and buffed.
More coats of wax for a deeper shine, looks very much like you're pic, I wish I could post a pic!
The grain shows through nicely, not overtaken by the paint and nicely contrasted by the 3 coats of jade green on the table legs, frame and stretchers.
This garden paint goes on new wood really well and the first coat is very shabby chic, second coat is smooth and flattens well without any brush marks.
De knibbed after the 2nd coat is dry, the 3rd coat leaves an even colour, flat and almost looks as if it were sprayed
Easy stuff to use I found, My favourite customer loved it, and she has bought several pieces from various places.

decided not to buy that wax and save 11pounds and just watered down some emulsion paint ,applied 1coat, let it sit for 2minutes, wiped off, let it dry for half an hour and applied 2nd coat and wiped off asap- the result came out pretty much like in the picture- great success!
But anyone have used that Liming wax or different liming wax? Do you get the same effect ,or what is it for exactly?
