Because this is a substitute for a mortise and tenon which a biscuit isn't because it doesn't go in deep enough.

Clever piece of a kit but when you consider the time and effort that must have gone into making it ... well, I'd rather be making furniture and save up for the real thing.

Yes I know that, my meaning was if you have to spend time on making a domino machine because you cant afford it, the next best thing is a biscuit jointer. Which seems now to have gone out of fashion and be laughable and the new sliced bread is the domino. I seem to remember people using doweling jigs in the dim and distant past when they were the " in " thing.

It seems to do what a domino does. I saw this vid a few months ago. I can understand if you are a pro doing these joints every day all day then maybe worth getting a domino. But hats off to the guy. He sells the plans for just a few euros. I is a little bulkier but does just the same job as far as I can see without the unique cutters. If you are just an occasional user then I would say this would be as good a project as one of Mathias Wandels jigs.

Yes you could, but there are some applications where a Domino is the difference between a project being viable and unviable. I have just finished making six wall lights, each with 16 Domino joints. I simply would not have contemplated it with 96 mortises and tenons. I guess I could have used dowels, but it would have taken a long time to devise and make the necessary jigs.

For a production environment, I completely agree - just buy a Domino. But for the hobbyist, some people actually like making jigs and tools rather than spending a lot of money on a professional grade tool. Speaking personally, I enjoy this aspect of my hobby more than making furniture!
