I've often wondered whether the best deterrent is to have an alarm INSIDE the house so that if they break in the 110dB siren will make such a din that they will not be able to hear anyone coming to the house or the police arriving. With a bit of luck it would disorientate the b*****ds so much that they will choose a quick exit.

Of course, there are probably health and safety issues why this wouldn't be allowed and the burglars would be able to sue you for damage to hearing.

Dreadful Steve, glad it's not worse.

I wasn't going to post this but.....

8 weeks ago 5.00am burglar alarm went off naked man runs downstairs thinking 'bloody cat got into the dining room again (PIR in kitchen was isolated for the cat). Strangley, it was the garage sensor that set the alarm off.

BAD feeling.

Everything in place in garage. Noticed a cupboard open i nthe kitchen, but wife's handbag still in there.

Noticed the key drawer just open a bit - bugger keys. Saw the kitchen window open just a little bit.
My Audi S3 key is only thing missing.
Naked man runs into the street (3 women feint and 5 more phone the police   ) luckily I realised the keys had been taken just in time and stopped them nicking the car. No one was caught even though police were there in 10 minutes.

Anyone care to guess how much it costs to get new keys and locks (laser cut and from Germany) for a high performance Audi?

New, more secure kitchen window and I have upgraded the alarm now.

Another Hijack!

My daughter at the time was a WPC in London and had her own car stolen,
Every copper in London took up the case and found the car. (two hours after loss)
So it should pay to become one of those community bobbies if only just for the perks.

To quote Tony "Naked man runs into the street(3 women faint and five more phone the police)"
What he did'nt mention was of the 3 women who fainted, one had a stroke but the other 2 could'nt reach. :)

You've been listening to Bernard Manning (RIP) :)

Sadly I have to say my recently late father who was a CID policeman (reluctanty by fate..plumber really) always said that women who had their jewellery pinched who could have locked it away were always upset (and you are in plentiful company including my mum), and it wasn't worth owning anything of value or desirable because someone would always want to pinch it. A terribly jaundiced but realistic view that has tainted my life. My wife and I own nothing of particularly sentimental value to the extent that I have expressly said anything of sentimental value should go to my sister, I prefer the memories to the responsibilty... (strange considering I have admitted keeping Lie Nilesen boxes :)).
Steve, delight in the replacements and allow yourselves to move on if you can, it doesn't need any of us to suggest your forthcoming moves I am sure it's rattling through your head 24/7 at the moment.

Cheers Alann

Sorry to hear this Steve

my condolences to you and Mrs Maskery

bad news steve.

what can i add. the really sad thing is they won't get any value for the bits so it just upsets you for nothing. remember it could have been worse, you could have been home, or they could have made a mess of the house.

i would suggest to all though that you remember these buggers often break in actually to get car keys these days, so make sure they are not in plain sight.

make sure you charge the insurance company proper costs for your time.
all the best

paul

Have you considered that many times these people return.

Back in a previous life I had some involvement with intruder alarm systems and would echo Devonwoodys comment - It might seem incredible, but these scumbags do frequently return to the scene so just be careful for the next few months.

Edited to add post script:-
Sorry didn't catch this when I asked for details of the big bash (Just received tonight thanks)

Like all the above people I am sorry to hear this story which is sadly a far too common occurance these days :(

Steve, Sorry to hear about your troubles. I hope the scum who did yours, come home one day to find their house has been robbed.

Cheers

Mike
