I would NEVER hope to reach the level of perfection that is achieved by masters like Holtey, Sauer and Steiner, Philly...to name but a few.....these people give me a target...as Everest does for climbers...

Jim

Why not Jim?

Someone once said 'To hit the target, it is usually necessary to aim higher.'

None of these guys were born making tools. They just aimed high, and kept at it. I'm sure they would agree too.

You already make a super job of some of the projects you've showed us. So, go for it.

HA! You're too kind John! I will however strive to achieve this level...once I get the burden of money-earning work behind me!

Cheers for the support!

Why the high price?

Because you are paying for attention to detail.

It is not just the very obvious thought that goes into every aspect of design, it is also the best workmanship on the planet along with the best materials that money can buy. We know from Karl's blog just how many hours go into each piece. When you add these factors together you get a sum that is greater than the parts.

I have no doubt that Karl's planes work just a well as they look. I've never used one, but my experience with the Marcou (that I do own) provides the insight into what is possible with a great handplane. "..its like a fiesta and a rolls Royce, both will get A-2-B" .... hardly! Use a plane from a major player on wood that will test its mettle and you will never say that again. :)

Ahhh Rob... You won't spend much time in the workshop...

You tend to become familiar with the inside of Asda, Sainsburys etc al. And discovering parts of the world you never knew existed!

I have saved up my comment to keep this thread up as long as possible.

I am a die hard fan of wooden planes, and I absolutely admire their looks and features. So Clean and Sophisticated.

I just can't help wondering how do those planes would feel like. I just have nothing else to wonder about them.
