Hinge Jig

Hi all. Looking at hinge jigs for internal doors. So predominantly 3” (75mm) butt hinges. I have seen the trend one but I was looking more for just a single hinge jig, not like the trend which is full door length. Now I know they are easy to make etc but this post is asking has anyone bought a single hinge jig and if so which ones and are they any good. Thanks in advance

A door might not function very well on a single hinge ! If fitting hinges you tend to use at least two so a jig that can locate them on both the door and the frame easily is much better than doing each hinge on it's own albeit a more expensive jig.

Thanks both. But surely there’s got to be something better on the market than these? If not there is a massive gap in the market. I’ve always done by hand and think I’ll continue to unless there is a quick and easy jig

Router entry point, adjustable and a jig which allows for door stops/architrave already fitted which is crucial for me with my existing doors and frames

I bought a UJK one to do my workshop but didn’t get in with it very well and was too big to do the frame with - could only do the door.

I have the same one and it is OK.

This is a minor quibble, but it suffers because the design is not fully thought through: it needs two different allen keys to adjust and there is no place onboard to store those keys. With a 3D printed item you have designed yourself, these ease-of-use factors are easy to incorporate.

I think you answered your own question, they are so easy to make so why buy one? Presumably that’s why’s there’s a gap.
The ones I have seen are just plastic, I’ve a few I made from aluminium angle probably a couple of decades ago so the little time it took to produce robust ones has paid back many fold.

I recently bought the jukebox one. I’ve done quite a lot of doors in recent years, but I was installing an internal pair of very tall and heavy oak doors. The design is asymmetric which had a few oddities. E.g the flip over 3mm stop to position the top hinge with a 3mm gap between top of door and frame is perfect when fitting the left hand door, but no use I could find for the right hand door. Easily sorted with a ruler, but with a jig I wasted a lot of time trying to reconfigure its assembly to work. I could have made my own in the wasted time! I did find it good doing the frame recesses, but only because I was able to do these before fitting the frame. As the frame itself is slightly recessed into the opening, I would not have found it useful at all had the frame already been in place.

That looks like exactly what I was thinking about I’ll get one ordered. I try not to hang doors anymore but I’ve got 15 to do so should save me a bit of time. I’m going to use the jig tech handles/latch too. Into the 21st century we go!

I've got several different hing jigs, but I don't even bother with them for a single door, it's quicker and neater for me to use a butt gauge and careful measurment

15 doors, I'd certainly be using a jig....don't forget the wood filler to fill the nail/screw holes
