Hi there from Lossiemouth Scotland , I do a lot of lathe and milling work also brazing and welding along with a few other things , keeps me out of trouble

No problem , I have a South Bend metal lathe made in the USA. Got it on a good deal with alot of tooling. It has become very handy.
That helps if you get tooling in with it , some buy a machine and not realise they are going to spend probably more on tooling than they paid for the machine

Wonderful to live on the "Nairn Riviera"! According to an old naval friend, Lossiemouth was chosen as a site for an air base as it is fog free more often than other sites in the area.
I'm nearer Aberdeen, and it's pretty dreich here today. Flaming June? Huh!

Wet here the day ,and she was pretty thick with a haar last night but to behonest this area seems to be more sheltered well most of the time that is ,we seem to miss the worst of things

Welcome.
What type of lathe and mill and what do you make.
I have a Colchester Student 1800 metal lathe and a Schaublin 13 mill and do a mixture of wood and mostly stainless steel.
mostly tattoo machines and other tattoo parts and equipment ,electromanetic cores ,armature bars etc,
lathes - warco gear head, a warco wm 240b , it's a belt drive so no chinese drive board or speed controls , i have a small hobby lathe as well that lasted about 30 year before the board went onfire lol i will hook it up the a sewing machine servo set up as it is handy for doing batches of small runs , mills, I have 3 in total , 2 chester conquest mills that I have had for god knows how long ,one with a rotary tabe the other is set up for one drilling job and a warco knee mill that I use for most of the machining of casts and fabricted parts , I don't really do woodwork as such ,it's all steel , ductile iron , brass ,bronze and stainless ,some times ally for fixtures unless someone needs something done

I also like using cutting disks in hand grinders now and again

Aye it was a training base when it opened ,then the navy had HMS Fulmer there then it was handed back to the RAF in the early 70's , a very different place now, I think it's the only operational base left in Scotland now ,i remember standing at the edge of the runway when a Buccaneer crashed ! pilot ejected and the plane went bang

Thanks for the update. We used to live on the base then moved to a bungalow on Mr Forsyths farm right opposite the Naval base. We had a great time working on the farm as kids and fishing in the river Lossie at the back of the property. Happy years
Fred

I had an uncle that was in the Navy there ,from what I remember a judge or sheriff signed him up for service! lol
