Hi

I'm new to the forum, early retirement ment I had to start twiddling my thumbs and pottering about in the shed :D

Well my latest project has been a fire surround for someone using just the router, bench saw and wood glue to construct it.

Can you spot the mistake? not that it detracts from the project a lot :(

Very nice friendly forum from what I can see. 8)

Nice build, like the detail. Was it hand carved?

Nope, possibly the top of the legs on the inside don't quite rise up high enough but that could just be a shadow.

Do you have any work in progress shots? I've got to build a fire surround at some point and I wouldn't mind having a nose at how you've made yours.

Hi wobblycogs

I don't have any progress shots sorry, basically the construction went in three parts ie three casements...the two outer columns and the center column.

Jointed together with Dovetail joints(Hidden) and a couple of rebates.

The fancy spiral moulding is old stairicase spindles cut in half on the bench saw and then glued in place to fit with the square pieces of wood on the top and bottom of the columns and then routed to make them look as though its one piece.

All the wood was White Pine and off the shelf standard size cut down to suit.
It wasn't a thought out project at the time I'd go as far to say it was construction as I went.

Thanks for looking wobblyclogs :)
