Hi everyone just a quick hello from a new member. I would like to get started into making some traditional wooden jigsaw puzzles, I have no idea where to start. Does anyone know any tutorials online I can view. I would like to start with taking an image (digi-camera photo) and applying it to a wood base and purchasing a value for money scroll saw and try my hand at cutting some pieces. I have some knowledge of digital printing but applying iamges to a wooden base and what glue ...oh and what saw, what blades and so on and on and on

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Best regards
Chris

welcome to the forum chris, you will be in good company soon enough because we have in this section probably one of THE best puzzle creators going Carter johnson, who will no doubt put you in the picture from the beginning.

Welcome! The forum search function at the top of the page will be helpful for stuff on basic saws, blade types and the like as these questions are often asked. As for jigsaws, the search function will again provide some helpful info. For video tutorials, Carter has a couple of videos on you tube - just search for wooden jigsaw or Carter Johnson. Steve Goods blog is basic but helpful for some stuff. Other than that then let google be your friend - sites such as MGC puzzles (single cutter, nice images but poor website), Staves puzzles (top quality company that produce hand cut wooden jigsaws of the highest quality) and similar will all be inspirational and informative. Then its a case of giving it a go, remembering that practice makes perfect and showing off you results on here!

thank you all.

Hello Chris and welcome to the forum,
I agree with the previous postings.
The search function will lead you to a lot of info.
Have a look at mikesworkshop for blades and tutorials.
Trawl American puzzle cutters' sites, a lot of them have info, pictures and videos.
However I am more reserved regarding the usefulness of Staves, they may well be good but they don't show you any of the actual production (their promotional video is just that, rather self-consciously censured, as if they had discovered the secret of alchemy  )
As a complete wood working novice myself I would say that cutting jigsaws somehow is very accessible, yet doing it well takes trial and errors, practice and humility.
As you will discover there is no One True Way of doing it and you should go into it open minded and ready to experiment. The blade can tend to have a mind of its own and may well lead you in unexpected directions...
