After taking advice from the good members on this forum I purchased a Excalibur 21 and after many many months (don't ask) I finally decided to take the plunge today and have a go at scrolling.

All set up but when I went to insert the blade it is about 2-3 inches short!!

I have released the tension knob on the arm - I have released the tension lever etc but no matter whether I put it in the top or bottom holder there seems a difference of inches. So with with the arm fully down the blade won't reach?

I contacted Axminster (where purchased) and though very polite and helpful every thing suggested I had already done and still there is a gap.

Checked the size of blades and Axminster Tools said they are very much universal size and these were the blades that came with the machine - I have purchased others but they are the same length.

Many thanks for any help. :(

Hi Brian

You were right

I resolved the issue by returning it to the store (hour and half drive) I purchased it from and asked their engineers to have a look.
It would appear that the grub screw holding the tension knob was loose. Once tightened this allowed the turning of the knob and it lowered the arm fully so was able to insert the blade. Simple but as a complete newbie to the world of scrolling I wasn't aware. The guys in the shop said it was the first time they had seen that problem and was a possible problem when left manufacturers factory.

But thank you for getting back - it is nice to know someone was willing to give assistance to a desperate man. I thought it was me doing something wrong or being stupid. As you can imagine - first time out of box after purchasing it nearly a year ago and finally being able to start scrolling to find the thing wasn't working properly was such a huge disappointment.

Thank you so much for getting back

May I wish you and your family health, wealth and happiness.

Take care and be well

Regards

Phil
