1. I have accidentally deleted me email account back to outlook express using the windows custom setting. I was using outlook via office 2003. Using a restore point does not rectify this as I cannot restore to a earlier point.

2. When logging on to my desktop I have an unread email display when clicking on the icon I see that an old hotmail address is also displayed here how do I delete this?

How can I rectify both problems?

Gary

Gary,

Can you be more specific about having 'deleted email account back to outlook express' ? Not sure exactly what you mean

I'm not sure about part one, but I had a similar problem with part 2 and got the answer on this forum, from Chas as I recall... here's what he said:

Registry Edit I'm afraid. Don't know how XP got it's knickers in a twist but this will fix it.

Start> Run> regedit>

>Find

HKEY_CURENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurentVersion\UnreadMail\AccountName.

You can probably find it just searching for "UnreadMail"

Highlight each user account.

Check 'MessageCount' field in righthand box.

Last number in brackets should read (0) if there are no unread mails

Double click on this field to edit the number.

While you are at it you can delete any account references you no longer use.

He also mentioned the usual cautions about doing such things in registry but I've never had any problems.

ooooop, this did say something about backing up the registry.

Thanks to Russell and Terry now sorted.

One other small problem that has developed.

When I receive an email with a link and click on it, it doesn't open a new web browser it simply gives me the option of locate link browser and save it in my documents.

Any ideas on this one?

Gary
