Hi all,

I am hoping you can help me. At work, in the two panel saws we have, we use 350mm blades, with 78 teeth. Some of the blades have alternating teeth and the other type is.... one tooth flat, the other chipped... and so on...

Anyway, we have had a pallet of 6mm thick pre-cut plastic (75mm strips) delivered. Normally we would cut this ourselves on our own saw, but theres so much it made sense to order it pre-cut. The cut edges are smooth as can be, which is something we cannot achieve when we cut it on our saws.

My theory behind it could be the plastic company may have a beam saw, which would explain the really smooth cuts.

But another guy reckons it could be down the the type of blade we are using.

So, with the information above on the current blades we are using. My question is, what would be the recommended type of blade for cutting 6mm plastic?

By the way, with a 350mm blade in the saw the speed is usually set to 4000rpm, but this can be adjusted up or down.

Any info anyone can provide me for cutting this plastic will be much appreciated! Thankyou. :D

Simon,

Yes there are special blades for plastics

Have a word or PM with Doug at cutting solutions. He will be able to sort you out.

We always use triple chips for plastics, that might be the blade your describing?

For cutting plastic material I would recommend a negative hook triple chip blade.
which may be the second blade you describe....negative hook is where the teeth lean backwards.
for 6 mm thick you need as many teeth as possible.
the most you are likely to find readily available on 350 mm diameter would be 108 teeth

Thanks for the advice, which will be passed on. I think the main thing we may need to do is get a blade with more teeth in if we are to get a smoother cut. What does a "negative" hook mean?
