I don't use the scrollsaw that often but its a ruddy nusance when I do and the blade grip will not hold the top of the blade. In addition the tint screw has worn out the hex hole. It would be better with a wing nut or something.

Phiotos show the useless unit on the Record RSSS16D, which I know is a basic model, but is there a better grip (or whatever its called) or ideally a quick release would be even better?

Malcolm have you tried looking on the Axminster site they have some blade holders that might work
Cheers
Brian
ps sorry for quick message but our power is off again here so using generator at the moment.

the screw is a socket head cap screw- prob m6 at a guess- you could replace that cheaply as a temp fix

If the bolt size is the same as my first scroll saw, an Axminster AWVFS, then you need M4 x 15mm cap head bolts. Get stainless steel ones as they are much stronger than the chinese monkey metal bolts supplied as standard with these clone saws and the bolt heads don't strip out so readily.

For the clamp bolts you could try Axminster for Bristol locking Handles which come in various metric thread diameters but you may need to cut the handle length down on your saw.

These entry level clone saws will never be perfect, but they can be made usable with a little bit of lateral thinking, and for a lot of people, will be all the scroll saw they will ever need for the type of work they do.

Hope this helps,
Dave.

I did toy with the idea of using the quick-release from a bike after seeing that same video. Never got around to it as my old saw blew up before I got the chance. I see no reason why it wouldn't work very well.

I have fitted one of these to my Hegner -

I got it from Mikes Workshop, the button is black on mine (the button allows you to change the position of the lever without adjusting the bolt - works really well.

Hi Malcolm,
I have fitted one to my OLD Delta.I had to recut the threads ,it works a treat.Got it from Ebay 99p +free P.P. from Hong Kong.I could have got one from a local bike shop for £15 with the right size thread,I was in no hurry for it so it was no contest £0.99 or£15.

Thanks for the ideas all.

Think I'll find a busy crossing with lights and see if I get a trucker de-seating a cyclist and offer to help with his bike!

Naahhhhhh that would take too long, think the clamp sounds better,
