Hi All
I am trying to restore an old lathe and while some pieces are in working order. Others are missing or need replacement parts which would be much easier if I new the manufacturer details of the lathe in question. I will try and answer any question you have.
The only marking on the lathe is a brass disk with a M then a line underneath and a 5 below that as pictured.
If you need any other pictures just let me know.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks all
Lew

Thanks Harbour, already done that seen some similar but nothing quite like it.
Hi Mark
That was my first though when I saw it for sale, but have since been told it's a wood lathe. Maybe I should start looking at metal lathes as well then.
Thanks for the help guys.

It's a strange looking beast but it also looks like a useful lump of iron if you can get it up to speed!

Looks like an extremley basic metal lathe? Missing the top slide. If it was for wood the sadle wouldnt need to be so well enginered. But dosent really matter iether way.

I have an equally old lathe and that was marked with the makers name on the front of the right hand head stock bearing.
Mine was only marked by a small stamping quite painted over, so keep cleaning the paint off you may find a makers name yet.
For those who may be interested its a George Hodgson of Cleckheaton, they were mill wrights, so this thing may be a one off, as it was unknown to lathes.co

Normally factory machine I.D. numbers, which I strongly suspect the M/5 disc is, the 99 may be a previous factories number.
I have in the back of my mind that the disc type were something to do with the wartime ministry of supply, who needed to know what machine tools were where and what they were doing.
