I have a 3Hp extractor motor. I do not have a 16amp plug in my garage. As a quick and dirty I wired the female 16amp plug to a 13amp plug and tried to use it this way until I can extend the circuit board as there is no space available. It blew the 13amp fuse.
Is there any way I can use the 16amp until I get the bigger distribution board??
Thanks
Barry

If you can find a way of reducing the initial current on start up it will run ok on 13amps but it uses 9-10 amps so not much left for other equipment, better to upgrade the feed system to cater for all your expected current requirements.

Hi all

Please note that UKW recommends that you use a qualified electrician.

For the sake of the safety of our members, any suggestions that do not appear to be good practice will be deleted.

Thanks
Neil

Neil I was not trying to do anything illegal but I have to wait 10 days for the sparks to come and have a look then give me a time to do the work.

That was the furthest thing from my mind.

The reason that I posted into this thread was that I had to delete two posts that might have been suggesting unsafe practice.

Cheers

Simple answer is NO.

I am an electrical engineer and my advice is the same as Neil's, wait for the qualified electrician.

Thanks to all who responded to me via PM - the help was great. especial thanks to Nick W - very good lateral thinking - it works great and my sparks arrived and gave it 10 out of 10 - he will fit and the bits by friday - a result .
Thanks
