All,

It is probably too late and probably inappropriate to ask this but I was wondering if you had any woody related sights that are worth seeing in the Republic of Ireland (yes, I am aware they are not part of the UK). I will be spending a few days in Dublin, Sligo and Galway areas between June 14 and 21st and would love to get some insider (or at least closer than N. America) views on worthwhile things to see.

Feel free to chime in with non-woody recommendations as well, but they will have to be family oriented as I will have SWMBO, my son and MIL with me also.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Pedro - welcome to the Forum.

I cannot help you about Ireland - sadly have never been, but will one day.

I am sure some of our Irish collegues will be along to offer some advice?

Hi Peter,

I can't help with woody stuff, but the Guinness brewery in Dublin is well worth a visit. It's family friendly. Actually this could be classed as woody related as there is a part of the tour with some great videos on coopering. It's amazing how quickly those guys used to knock up a cask.

Dublin:

a walk down the quays from the brewery,
a dander up O'Connell Street to see the G.P.O..... the 'Stiletto in the Getto' is quite some sight too.
a trip around Trinity, just past the statue of Molly Malone (The Tart with the Cart) - GO SEE THE LONG ROOM! MUCHO WOOD!
go back over h'apenny bridge and back into town, find a trad music pub near Connolly Station, get wellied into the black stuff.

For the love of Jesus, Joseph, Mary and the wee donkey, DO NOT TRY TO DRIVE IN BUBLIN!!!!! Un ess you come from a long line of kamikazee pilots....

More if you need it, wife worked there for 15 years and relatives down there daily risk their lives on the M50.....
