He understands less that you and he think he does. Private browsing does not stop trackers, it merely stops anyone who uses your browser from knowing which sites you visit or have visited*.Your ISP knows which sites you visit with private browsing, so do the sites and their hosters. You ( and he ) should look up ( amongst other methods that google and others use ) "browser fingerprinting", calls to "google hosted fonts" and calls to "google hosted scripts".Google do far more tracking than most, that is how they get the detailed data about each person so as to be able to run "real time" ad auctions that depend on where the visitor sis known to have been before they land on any page of any site. This data is not cleared by ending a browser session, nor is it cleared by clearing cookies, or by rebooting the computer that you use or your phone.
I've been doing this ( building websites and securing them, and servers, and building apps and coding programs and scripts including many that are still in use by major banking systems internationally, including, but not limited to the UK ) since before google existed..I began in 1974 back in the days of punched cards.
Yes, your site is no worse than many, and many find it very useful.I never said that it was not.
Kudos for you taking the time and energy to put it together to help people. But, as I don't need that help, I won't be visiting.
I had been toying with the idea of offering to host it for free for you on one of my servers ,and with you having full control over it.I had even thought to buy you the domain name and not charge you, because I think that your site is a worthwhile cause to support. The dot com, scrimpers.com is a "premium" name on sale at $6595.00 , so it wasn't going to be that one.the dot co dot uk is taken ( maybe by you ? ) but the dot uk is not..At under $6.00 , I was quite happy to buy it, I have hundreds of dot coms and dot fr domains, one more" is neither here nor there.
our annual domain names bill is already a few thousand euros, with our hosting ( not our domain registration ) on multiple servers in a private data centre an additional €K per annum or so on top of that. You would not have been the first site that we host for free, nor probably the last.
But..the fact that as usual for this forum, not only did many who have no idea what they are talking about ( ajs included ) jump on and "dogpile" on me.maybe they are worried that you'd take down your site at google because of what I said ? Why should you care ?
What made me decide, not to pm you with that offer, ( I'd been discussing it during the weekend with my son who runs our web stuff with me ) was just now, when I got the notification that you had posted..and were continuing the "dogpile" and now with an "expert grandson" who has "shown you the code", which actually consists of no "code" ( HTML, CSS and a few scripts ) ..That is not "code" that is how to mark up a website page..No "security" involved.
As to the comments from yourself and others, that will no doubt follow this post..I really do not care. This place has not improved at all since 2023, still contains a load of anonymous "experts" whose main interest is not wood, metal or creating, but snark and sniping. I'll leave you to it. The people here who I find interesting , I can contact via pm..or "elsewhere".
The day google decides that they are not going to host your site, because they do just shutter what does not make them a profit.,many many exmples, google groups was huge, many had put years of work into their "virtual sites" and discussion areas there, , it is no more. You'll perhaps think that if you had only not decided to keep on attacking me and inventing expert relatives , or maybe he, the grandson is real, but not as expert as he would have you believe.Runs windows does he, or Mac .You could have had secure" free hosting, with video, blog, and all the rest, along with help to make it better, with no ads, no tracking, GDPR compliant etc.
There may be typos, french keyboard layout, french speel chucker..and I'm annoyed that I let my time be wasted here, yet again.
*Even then, skilled forensic analysis of a computer that has used "private browsing" will still enable anyone who knows how to do it to find all the images that were stored as pages were visited and all the URLs. They are merely harder to get at than simply looking at "browser history". Even formatted drives will give up all their history, images , files, emails and visited URLs. You'd be amazed what people think they have got rid of from their hard drives, and is still there to someone with the skills and equipment to get it back. A lot of non google websites can tell what you looked at before you reached them. My mates at the gendarmerie ( as are the UK police ) here, know that well,.I've helped them on a few occasions when they have not known the english words that they should have been searching for on a computer or phone that they were analysing, or the meanings of some words that they have found.
