I'm taking part in a study into NAFLD (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease). During discussions with the Doctor I learned a couple of things that I'd not known before.
1) Your liver needs at least one day a week without any alcohol..to recover
2) 6 units in a bottle of wine was actually based on wine strength of a long, long time ago. The math is quite simple...100ml at 10% alcohol = 1 unit. So taking a 700ml bottle of typical red wine..at 12.5% gives...8.75 units...oops
So if you thought you were within your 21 units a week then maybe think again
The other tidbit off the box was the myth of the oft-quoted...'you need to drink at least 2 litres of water a day'...Apparently this statement has been taken out of context for all those years as the actual research report from which this quotation comes then goes on to say..."of which the majority is provided indirectly by what you eat and drink during the day"
