Paul, just to eliminate one other source, can you secure a piece of endgrain to your faceplate and try it, just in case, there is a remote chance there is some obscure play in the Nova chuck.
Yes Chas have tried this.Paul, just to eliminate one other source, can you secure a piece of endgrain to your faceplate and try it, just in case, there is a remote chance there is some obscure play in the Nova chuck.
Yes Simon this is so.But the Hegner site and DVD do say/show it is well capable of holding a large piece off the nose, with vibration free turning,as some Hegner owners are doing.I don't think the pieces i've been trying aren't really that large.Compared to what i have seen been turned on one.The only observation / thought I have is that the hegner is mainly a spindle turning lathe that has the ability to swing the head and do larger stuff.

Sorry Simon i did not mean to sound offencive, just didn't realise how familiar you might have been with the Hegner.Hope I did not cause offence - really none intended
As a matter of interest how solid is the tool rest clamping now that it has ben dressed, is there any chance it is flexing-tipping? it would only need a few thou to give you chatter.
Thanks John.I have only just seen your reply :roll:The gentleman whos VB it was had an answer to doing basic spindle work he brought a second lathe. It is a cheap seconhand one which is on a movable stand and lives in a corner of his garage.
