3g phone network to be discontinued by 2033, but switch off for some as early as 2023.

I know. The other three have a short time before switch off. The article says this about O2

O2 has not specifically announced when it will close down 3G and 2G services, or whether it'll be before the agreed date of 2033.

You should be fine for basic stuff - i.e. talk and text and even basic web browsing. If your phone can't connect by 3G the vast majority will fall back to 2G which isn't going to get turned off for the foreseeable future, too much infrastructure (smart meters etc) depend on it. The tinterwebs will be slower, that's all.
