One of the small plastic oojamaflips broke leaving the rear bumper flapping around the wheel arch. Elderly 1999 S2000 (OK...only done 18k). Toddled down to the local garage where they had a tray of spare plastic oojamaflips. Sadly none were what I was after.

"I'll look on the computer" he said. "Yes, it is available for £2".
"I'll take two", says I, "and if I give you a bit extra can you post them?".
"No problem....give us a fiver". They arrived two days later.

That was last week. This week, on Monday, the glass mirror and plastic backing fell off the passenger door mirror and broke. Remembering tales of other manufacturers insisting that you had to buy a complete wing mirror assembly (which would need them fitting) I glumly thought I'd be looking at best part of a couple of hundred quid. So I went on eBay. Quite a few new door mirrors for £63. Still the fitting charge to be added. Then I saw a complete slightly dented door, same colour, same vintage, working window glass, door mirror......opening bid £0.01 ...buyer collects from London. So I thought "Why not" and bid a penny.

I thought perhaps I'd better give the garage a chance and called them. "Let's see. Yes, it's available still. Cost £16 + VAT. We have to bring it over from Belgium so it will be a few days". £16 !!! :shock: And it clips on and so no installation charge. Happy Bunny. Fantastic service from Honda for spare parts.

Yesterday, I got a message from eBay, telling me I had won a car door for a penny :oops:

Now yer talking. That has got to be a favourite car!! You can change the whole body with a screwdriver a 10mm spanner and the wheel brace!!

Engine problems? No problem!! To change a piston and cylinder, or both piston/cylinders, use the wheel brace to take the front wings off and a couple of spanners to wizz the pots off, tap the gudgeon pins out of the pistons. Tap them back in to the new pistons, fit the new pots and torque everything down and new engine... I had to do just that on my Diane when the fan hadn't been fitted properly and it seized! ! Cost? Just over £30 at the time.

OH had a 2CV for 17 years and a better car I have never known. I want one now, here!! In fact, I want a Mehari!! The Citroën version of a Mini Moke and I ain't talking about the BMW 'named' mini so they cn con people into thinking that they are in a PROPER Mini..

Sorry Roger, but I know the 2CV inside and out and LOVE it!!

I fitted the GT kit onto my Daine. It was a set of castors that fitted onto the door handles to stop the drag of said handles on the road on very fast corners :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

Can you confirm a story I think I remember hearing in a TV documentary years ago about the 2CV? They said that, when first designed, there was some sort of problem in fitting some of the panels at the front - they just would not fit together properly. So one of the assembly workers kicked them, and they snapped into place ok. What was the reaction of the Citroen designers?
They left the panels the same, and made a special reinforced boot for the fitter!!
