Hi Shultzy

Escudo, Dibs and myself had an enjoyable day there today. I suppose it depends on what you are looking for really. There were quite a few stands there with a fair bit to offer as far as I was concerned it gave me the opportunity to see a lot of kit I otherwise wouldn't have ready access to and it's nice to be able to say I'll think about it and walk away. In the case of Camvac it may be the answer I've been looking for and will pursue later.
As far as any bargains were concerned I'm not sure that there were any to be had in reality, I think most retailers margins are cut to such a fine line, most deals can be had as good once you've made up your mind from a good local dealer. For me it was well worth the visit, I got to know a couple of members of UKw a lot better and experienced a remarkable level of hospitality... much appreciated Dibs & Escudo. I also benefitted from an exchange of ideas, which I think is what this is all about...hopefully they feel the same :) Sorry not to have met you too, another time perhaps. With luck they may add their comments.

Cheers Alan

Hello Shultzy,

Firstly, I must say how sorry I am to hear that your wife is poorly. Hope she is feeling better today. Hope also we have an opportunity to meet in the future.

Here is my report on Harrogate;

I throughly enjoyed my trip to Harrogate with Alan and would also like to thank Dibs very much for his kind hospitality and company.

After a 4 hour drive from Norfolk with Alan in my old bus we crossed the moor at Ilkley and arrived at our hotel. A quick cats lick and we met Dibs who kindly took us to an excellent indian for a succulent mutton curry with trimmings.

We drove back to Ilkley and called at a real ale pub (Bar T'at) where we sank some more beer, very very nice to. I had Outlaws, Chinook ale and another called Golden Pale.

A brisk walk back to the hotel (-4 temp) and when my head hit the pillow I was fast asleep, dreaming of tools and this nice lady I chatted up at the pub when I went for a quick gasper.

On Saturday morning after an average breakfast we drove to Harrogate for the show. It took ages to get there due to my poor driving, the sat nav and traffic.

It was busy when we arrived. Lots of stalls and plenty to see. I had a list of items to check out and soon lost Alan and Dibs when they seemed glued to the Trend, Festool, Mafell, Makita stalls and just about every other shop we passed. :)

It soon became apparent that the so called "show deals" were absent. There did not appear to be any discounts. However, it was a top chance to see, fiddle and examine a number of tools.

I was impressed again by the festool domino, but at £660 for the kit it was very expensive. The Kapex looked good also, a big machine. The vicmarc lathes also caught my eye, they seem very well made, top machines.

I spent an hour or so looking at the book stalls and purchased two books on Arts and crafts furniture. A modest purchase from the CHT stall and my spending was complete.

The journey home was easy and I dropped Alan off at around 9.30pm.

A really enjoyable day or two away. Excellent company and well worth while. I would like to go again and in general make the effort to attend all the shows up and down the country. It is also good to stay over and enjoy new company and meet new friends.

I wonder if any other members were there? It would be good to have a fixed meeting place at do's like Harrogate. Sharing ideas and thoughts and also putting a face to a name makes the forum a richer place in my opinion.

Hope this report is interesting.

Esc. (Tony)

Thanks for the report Tony, unfortunately my wife was still poorly so I was unable to attend.

I printed out the "UKWorkshop" logo and was going to wear it as a badge so that forum members would recognise it as they were walking around. Might be a bit over the top :)

Hi Chaps

Shultzy - Hope the wife is well\gets better.

The show was good - one of the highlights was having coffee and some cake with a Scottish chap who does it for a living. Very interesting - even if we were too polite to say we had missed the odd word or two due to the accent.

There wasn't much to be had in the way of deals at the show - I'd go so far as to say that in some cases the prices were higher due to their being a captive market. I usually find that I can get a better discount at a local dealer. Although we did have a bloody good go at haggling. :)

Although Alan wasn't overly impressed with saving a couple of quid only to spend 13 quid minutes later. Still can't win them all -

All in all it was thoroughly enjoyable - even more so for the company during the day and evening before. :D

Chaps, here's that link for those 3 for 2 books that I mentioned,

I'll PM you the link for the saw blades.
