Hi everyone, have been browsing this forum for a few days and decided to join up. Am hoping to get some advice from you guys but first a bit of history...

Used to rent a house with a 10ft x 8ft shed/workshop, which was amazingly cramped. Just moved and first job was a new workshop. It's only 8ft x 16ft but the extra size is a huge difference. Will post some pics and some of my solutions to minimal space asap.

First tho I need to find a supplier locally for buying hardwoods, only small pieces for jigs etc. I use ply but need hardwood for things like mitre guide runners. I just moved to staveley, Chesterfield and don't know where to buy from. Any suggestions please? Hoping to get to work in the new workshop tomorrow morning so and suggestions tonight would be really helpfull. Cheers all.

cant help with the wood supplier, but i`m sure someone will be along shortly who can, but in the meantime ....
Welcome to THE Forum, Mart..

Hi Martlewis,

Welcome to the forum.

I dont know about your area but look Here at CHJ post and look at the link at the bottom :)

I hope it helps

There used to be a bloke in, IIRC, Church Street, who specialized in Walnut. Very helpful chap. But it was years ago when I last went, I don't know if he is still there. There is also a place at Tansley near Matlock - not a million miles away from you. They saw their own logs.

HTH and welcome.

Hi Mart

Welcome to the forum.

Isn't there a supplier, iirc Laver, right next to the A61 dual carriageway going north out of Chesterfield?

Cheers
Neil

Ni mate, have had bad experience with Lavers wood quality in the past so don't shop there any more. They're not bad for bulk buying, framing and such like, but terrible for higher grade ply for cabinets etc.

Found a place called Ron Mills in Staveley who seem pretty good and they're within walking distance.
