Hi everyone.

What are the implications of using a solid wooden floor in a bathroom. I am just about to install a new ensuite bathroom at my Mum and Dad's house. They are spending a fair bit on the fixtures and tiles and would also like to splash out on the floor. My Mum really wants a solid oak floor, but I am unsure as to how this would work with the changes in humidity encountered in a room with a bath and shower.

Is this a good idea? Can the problem be solved with any kind of treatment or sealer?

Thanks in advance.

you need to check weather there is any moisture checked oak flooring
and you may need to leave a greater space for expansion. the other thing to think about is water pooling.

i'd be worried about it for the same reasons I'd be worried about wooden kitchen worktops. I'm not sure how long it will look beautiful in such a moist environment. I'm no expert tho

There are many ceramic tiles now that are designed to look like wooden floors, I was looking at them the other day (1.2 m long ones) and they are very impressive _ I saw walnut, oak, zebrano, cherry, pine and probably there are more. They were very very impressive.

Might want to consider those
