Hand Tools for the Gambia - can you please help?

I am involved with a small charity that supports a village in the Gambia. 100% of all donations end up with the village.

I am going out to the Gambia in late Feb/early March and I wondered whether anyone has any hand tools that they would like to donate?

I am quite happy cleaning/sharpening anything that is donated. I hope that you can help.

I am a member of a local Tools for Self Reliance group. We collect unwanted tools, refurbish them and send them topartner organisations in Africa. Although we do not normally deal with The Gambia, we could supply you with some tools. What tools would be best for you? Please PM with a list and I'll get back to you.

Tools for Self Reliance is a national network of local groups with a headquarters in Netley Marsh near Southampton. If anyone is interested in TFSR check out their web site to find a local group http://www.tfsr.org. It's a great way for practical people to give practical help to hard working craftsmen and women in Africa.

I've not been to the Gambia, but I have made similar trips to Sierra Leone and Zambia. Decent tools are very much appreciated.
And that is the point, they must be decent in the first place. It's no use paying to ship out stuff that is junk. If it is junk here then it is also junk there. Someone, I have no idea who, dumped, and I do mean dumped, a car-load of stuff in my front garden before I went. I'm sure they knew what they were doing, or else why do it surreptitiously? 99% of it was just fit for the bin.
If you do donate, please do so generously, with tools that are genuinely useful. They will be appreciated, used and make a real difference to the life of someone who is a lot less privileged than we are.
All my stuff is still in store, or I'd try to find something for you, Neil. Enjoy your trip, I'm sure you'll never forget it.

Hi

TFSR is very particular about the standard of refurbishment of our tools. To send out an inadequate tool is an insult to the craftsperson who receives it.
