I know that some of Guy Martin's TV programmes have been enjoyed by members on here.
I have just watched part 1 of Our Guy in India on 4OD and thought it was significantly better than other celebrity travelogues. There's no woodworking content but he does choose to spend a day visiting a big truck yard. He also buys an Indian made Royal Enfield bike, which he races in part 2, next Sunday night.
Refreshingly down to earth and credible stuff.

watched it on record last night, I do enjoy his programs, more designed for the geek than the average watcher.

Glad you enjoyed it Andy. I'm assuming you're not a race fan? I've been watching Guy on the track for a decade or so. I remember him charging round like a madman at Oulton Park when he had his push bike nicked. All this TV stuff he's doing seems very bizarre but obviously he's a character and thats what the TV producers have latched on to. Similar to Fred Dibnah.
He's very popular in the race world for the same reason. He has Asperger's I think. He struggles with too many people at a time and rides without pay at the TT so that he's not committed to corporate stuff. he's extremely fast on the open roads, but not so quick on short circuits, which is often the case. There's only a couple of other fast lads that have stopped him getting a win at the TT. This year he's on a BMW which is the weapon of choice at the moment so fingers crossed for him. He says he'll stop racing when he's had a win there. I think it was last year he came second and refused to open the champagne as he didn't want to celebrate coming second!
There are many other open road events run in Ireland in which he competes. They are on shorter courses than the TT but on closed public roads and just as hairy.
There's masses of footage on YouTube, especially of Guy. There was a feature length fly on the wall docu released and shown at certain cinemas a couple of years ago. 'Closer to the Edge'. It revolves around Guy's TT fortnight. He discusses many aspects of 2 weeks on the Isle of Man.

You're right Grayorm, I only know him from his other TV series. But I liked the way a shared enthusiasm for a specialist subject meant he could connect quickly with different people. (A bit like all of us on here if we don't stray too far into areas where we know our opinions do differ.)
He certainly seems willing to have a go at things.

Quite a character - that engine doesn't sound like a Merlin but perhaps it has to be in the air to do so?

He is a great guy. (no pun intended) He works around the corner to my timber merchants and can often be found at the burger van over the road. (When he's not jetting around the world) He really is a great character and just the same as he is on TV. I love his programs and also have my fingers crossed for a win in the TT for him. (maybe with BMW this year we'll see) :D

Anyone see last night's? (8th Feb). Superb TV! Left with a big grin on my face. Looking forward to the sequel...Goa to Grimsby on the Enfield.

Yes, I was glued to the TV and really enjoyed it. I do hope he gets the chance to ride it from Goa to Grimsby and it is televised, should be some fun. :D

Great programme, I would love to visit India one day just to see some of it for myself.

Maybe if you could find some kind of woodworking forum on which to sell some of your woodworking kit it might help fund your trip.
12 posts in 30 minutes - only 8 to go until you can sell

I haven't sold anything on the forum.....yet. Even if I do surely it helps members to stock up there workshops. You can't have enough woodwork equipment.

Besides, what has Guy Martin got to do with woodwork? I think Netmums would be a better place for this thread. :p

Now that's funny, there was a weasel forum spammer on here just a couple of weeks back who started bleating about Netmums, small world isn't it? Come on what have you got to sell?

I would love to take credit for all spam on the internet but alas, I don't have time. Wait for the sale post. It might actually be something you want. Good to have a laugh on a forum once in a while though. It's been a while since I last dabbled.

Looking forward to you laying out your wares - should be there in a couple more posts. Give me 5 minutes I'm just off to make a brew, don't start without me!
