Think more exotic! well non native, and when I said self set what I meant was it started growing in our compost heap so I took pity on it and moved it somewhere more suited to its needs.

A bullace is blue/black, like an oversized sloe.

Bullace come in many colours a lot of ornamental plum trees are of the bullace plum strain because they are one of the earliest flowering

:) It didn't cross my mind it was anything else. You didn't say what it tasted like, though. There must be 100's of varieties and yours is an unknown, anyway.

Well it tastes like a Nectarine :? ,a bit smaller and not quite as sweet as from the supermarket but not bad, I intend to make some chutney and then freeze the rest for cooking with.

Well if it tastes like a nectarine it probably is anyone been eating nectarines in the garden and planting the stones

Just been cutting up some damson and plum trunks, beautiful coloured wood inside, don't know if nectarine would be similar ?

Cheers, Paul

Me too...I had a large plumb trunk given me in the winter and the colour is amazing...a reddy purple. Only downside, it really stains the cast iron table of the bandsaw for some reason. Acidic sap maybe???

I had to pick them, they were falling off just looking at them.

Sorry, I thought they were all sloe coloured. I googled, but could only find green ones which were a wild greengage. I didn't realise the rootstock influenced the flowering time, I thought it only strengthened the tree.

Strange, I'd have thought your plumb wood would have been the colour of lead. :)
