Grey dust extraction hose - can you still buy it?

I have some grey dust extraction hose which is more rigid and doesn't stretch/compress much. The last lot I bought was from Axminster and it was described as "General Purpose 100mm x 3m Grey Dust Extraction Hose" and cost £16 inc. two hose clamps in 2019. This is really tough and is good for my DX4000 extractor as it deals with high vacuum. I need another meter or two and can no longer find any. I can find semi rigid hose at £££ but this grey stuff was always cheaper than the clear hose. Any suggestions?

I've got a bit you can have if you want to pay the postage. II see you are in Norfolk so unfortunately presume collection from Lancs not an option. I think it's the same stuff and that it's well over a meter but I'll measure it and let you know.

If you only need a couple of metres does the cost factor really matter. I bought some thin very flexible grey stuff what must be nearly 15 years ago and cannot believe how well it has lasted.

Yes, but the only stuff I've found so far is vacuum hose at £28 per meter and stay put hose at £35 per meter which just seems a bit steep for a bit of hose...

A bit of a long shot, but have you tried contacting P&J or Fercell the extraction specialists, both in Kent. They might sell you a few metres or let you know where they buy it in from.

That's a better price and could work. I hadn't thought of searching on suction hose...the problem with dual/triple motor vacuum extractors is when the resistance increases by stepping down to a smaller hose all the flexible pipe shrinks back to the shortest length. The first time I was playing with my DX4000 I had it on the wheels and a 3m length of flexible hose which I inadvertently stuck to the floor and I found I had 20kg of metal hurling towards my head as the pipe contracted, left quite a bump....

Only reason I was looking at water suction hose as had the waterboard out last year for a major mains burst. They were using honda portable pumps with green hose that seemed to remain the same length even when the suction inlet got blocked. Was fairly flexible and looked really heavy duty. Not sure if the bore is smooth though. I think you would need to see it first in case its too heavy.

Ive got some fluid hose around 1 1/2" that i bought to extend my hoover hose. Its smooth bore, ribbed outside, extremely tough but cost a bit

I think I now understand the difference between the older grey hose and the newer style clear hose. The grey hose is PVC and the clear hose is made from Polyester/Polyurethane which makes it much more flexible and tougher but the disadvantage is it's also very compressible. The older grey hose is hopeless on a movable machine but better on a fixed machine.

From what you have just said about the grey hose flexibility & it being good for fixed machines it sounds like the hose never moves. If that is the case then have you considered using solid ducting rather than a semi-flexible hose? That would improve the efficiency of the system & you could use the grey bit you replace for your other needs.

I’ve just built a thien baffle separator which I need to attach but still be able to remove for emptying, but you're right that fixed would be a better solution. I’d just assumed I could buy a length of the stuff I had. Luckily @bobblezard has come to the rescue.

If you can you would still be better replacing any long(ish) lengths of flexible with solid pipe, the ribbing causes turbulence which will reduce the efficiency of the system, a Thein Baffle will help reduce the amount you empty your collector, in 3 years I had about 1/2" of fine sawdust in my collector drum, my baffle is built on an old Autosmart barrel, think it's 245 ltr but still fills up quicker than I would like lol
