Brazing facilities? Blow torch, suitable solder and some flux. No?

Well, a suitable hearth would be handy, along with the skill to use it all :D

I've got the hang of woodwork, I can do metalwork of the sawing, filing, grinding, drilling tapping
and riveting type, I draw the line at the hot processes (forging, brazing, welding, casting)

My workshop doesn't have the room, and in any case they're virtually impossible to
do at all cleanly (and hence incompatible with a multi use workshop).

I think Mignal was trying to say there's no need for a seriously hot process (ie brazing, with a proper gas torch and hearth) when a much simpler, slightly hot process will do (ie soldering), which just needs a little gas blowlamp (as used in plumbing) and a couple of old tiles to rest the work on.

I have the same constraints as you, and don't want to burn the house down, but a little bit of soldering is ok.
