I've got one of these on order from Axminster....

http://www.axminster.co.uk/product-Axmi ... 807388.htm

it's new in their catalogue and due in at the end of Jan, as i'm after something to complement my Patriot.

but when i saw this one....

my heart started to flutter....

ok...... so it's not gold.... it's Titanium Nitride. But i thought "yeah.... what the heck..." plus it comes complete with a couple of extra items too.

So i emailed them and asked how much shipping would be to the UK. Just got the answer this morning..... wait for it.....

68$

plus of course when it then gets here, there's the very big chance that you'll get 'asked' for a bit of duty (sometimes i have... sometimes i haven't....), but if you do....... let's then add on say 17.5% (could be more, could be less)..... cost of item + cost of delivery + cost of duty / current exchange rate = around £190..... just about double the one i have on order.

I think i'll stick with my order from Ax...... and maybe buy a tin of gold spray paint from the local pound shop.....

It really is pot luck with importing stuff from the states. One of my non-woodworking passions is collecting trainers (yes, the things you put on your feet) and I rarely get hit with customs on those and the shipping is always reasonable. But woody stuff I get stung about 60% of the time and quite often the postage is prohibitive, even on small, light items. Now the pound is weaker against the dollar, I rarely even consider importing stuff unless it's not available over here at all.

Hi,

Get the axminister one and have it Titanium Nitrided, sorted!
