I decided to re-skin our old metal garage door in Tricoya mdf. I will be attaching a base of 6mm over the whole door and have cut and profiled a frame and panel effect in 12mm that I want to stick onto this The horizontals are 10cm x the width of the door and there are five vertical 10x20cm pieces spaced across the door between the horizontals. This creates a visible area of the 6mm base of 20cm x about 40cm to give the paneled effect.
I was thinking of gluing the 12mm bits onto the base with Resin W with a few screws through the whole door from the inside through the metal and 6mm into the 12mm bits.

I'm a bit out of touch with glues but always used Resin W so... Is there a better glue for sticking mdf to mdf for exterior use.

Also I want a fast set Gripfill type glue for sticking the 6mm base to the garage door.

This door will never open, but it should be possible if the weight isn't too much for the existing mechanism.
I hope I've not dropped rollock with this, its the first time I've used Tricoya and it is a lot more fragile than I thought it would be. If I was going to use the door a lot I think I'd probably regret using it but if its just stationary I hope it will be okay and stand up to the weather and slight knocks okay

I'm thinking of using linseed oil paint on this, does this sound like a good idea or would you recommend some other type of paint.

Any thoughts most welcome.

Steve.

PU glue is usually recommended for accoya products.

UF glue is not recommended, not sure if PVA is ok

Nothing wrong with Resin W, though I prefer PolyTen PVA for the 10 minute grab time, works really well. Haven't used Tricoya MDF, but it works well on all other types, though as always I'd try a test sample first.

Good question. I'll be needing the se advice soon. Tricoya doesn't allow moisture at all so questioned suitability of pu glue. I'm inclined to use resin, just because I really don't want the joints failing

Straight from the horse's mouth:

In general Medite Tricoya Extreme can be glued using PVA, PU, RPF, or EPI wood adhesive systems.

Comprehensive testing has shown that Medite Tricoya Extreme has good gluing properties. However, it is imperative that the product’s modified properties are taken into account. This is of particular importance because common wood adhesives (PVA, EPI, PU, and PRF) either harden on contact with moisture or part of the water content of the adhesive needs to be absorbed by the MDF.

Everyone will have a preference but I believe it doesn't matter much what you use.

Real oil paint can be more durable than many modern coatings so there's a good chance it'll hold up better than a lot of other things you might use these days.
