Glue up table top

I am thinking of topping my MDF table with that painted hardboard as a replaceble top.
i know that stuff scrapes off fairly easy though so would the team think that a coat of Poly varnish or two would cure that?

would an 8 by 4 sheet of formica be very expensive?

Morning Mike, glad to see I'm not alone at this time of day.
Yes formica is expensive, but is probably the best.
Silverman carry MFC, whilst it is not the same quality if you edge it with some solid timber it will be fine, bit slippy slidey for my money but nice to keep clean.
