I currently do everything by hand, partly because I enjoy it that way, but partly because I don't have a lot of space to fit any machines at the moment. At some point in future when I move to a house with a nice big garage or shed :D I will want to get a few power tools, mainly just to speed up the dimensioning of my timber.

In order of importance (or maybe versatility) what should I be looking to get? Table saw or band saw first? Jointer or planer? Router table? Anything else?

Thanks

Dave

Thanks - I know it'll be different for everyone depending on what people do most (I'd be doing general furniture work). I guess I should have phrased the question as - which large tool sees the most use in your workshop? As that's what I was really interested in.

It is often said that the two tasks that are the biggest pain to do by hand are ripping and dimensioning stock. The bandsaw and P/T can take a lot of the elbow grease out of those tasks, leaving you time to get creative with the proceeds.

Table saw, bandsaw, planer/thicknesser - all with induction motors!

Everything else can come a bit later. :)
