Now a chap who has the drive and innovation to make some dosh gets the moosey treatment.....

do I detect some jealousy here....

He was a first class gardening presenter, made things simple for the general public to understand, and came over as a nice chappie......he started on Pebble Mill at One and worked his way up.

Good for him he deserves all the success.

I think chris beardshaw should front it, he has bags of talent, loads of enthusiasm and above all he KNOWS what he's talking about. Got to admit though, i do have a soft spot for Alan.

I agree.
I did part of the RHS Diploma and Chris came down to do a talk and open forum.
His worked in horticulture from a young age.
During the open forum he was asked about Alan, and Monty, and if he would take over gardeners world.
He said he was happy just doing the guest stints..and that his hands were full because he was doing the series where he flew about in a helicopter looking at different gardens, which he was enjoying....
my take on it was that he was not impressed with the BBC, and the way they made gods out of presenters.
Even most of the gardening books that come out after a series appeared not to be written by..whoever..but by ghost writers.....
which I don't think he agreed with

He came over as a very pleasant person with some old fashion standards and principals who didn't want to be boxed in as a BBC presenter of garden progs.

.

none whatsoever mate - i'd rather be me than be a "pretend" gardener - of course i'd like a comparable income, who wouldnt, but it doesnt really bother me that i dont have.

and in fact the acheivability of his projects doesnt really bother me a s i have access to landscaping machines and plant via my job so i could do any of the projects he did, if i wanted to

no the point is that he may have "made it simple for the general public to understand" but he also seemingly acheived projects in a day or so which would take the man in the street weeks and hundreds of pounds in hire costs - but that aspect wasnt mentioned, which creates a false expectation of what is reasonably acheivable.

talking to someone who knows, he said they were building chris up to be the next "Alan" but those BBC exec's chose Toby pineapple instead, big mistake.
