What about a hasp and staple arrangement? I'm thinking, fix the hasp to the door with round headed bolts ( no grip ) going through hasp, door and a steel backplate, say 6" square for strength. Loctite on the nuts ( or weld them). The staple would be welded to a backplate which would be bolted down to the floor outside ( concrete? ) or to the frame if that would be stronger. One of these hasp and staple arrangements each side should show any burglars that you mean business when it comes to security ( or make them think there must be something worth stealing in there?). It might also be possible to protect the lock shackle by welding up a thick steel 'shroud' which only allows access to the keyhole of the lock - I expect you know what I mean here. The shroud could perhaps protect the hasp too. You would need to ensure the door can clear the staple arrangement though. I think a home made solution might be better than bought in ones because a serious thief can buy locks and investigate their weaknesses in advance, so they will know how best to overcome them, whereas a home made one will present a totally new challenge.

Locksmith recommends Garage Defender https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1vS4l0VkCI - but he sells them.

Personally I'd go for heavy Duty Brenton bolts http://www.toolstation.com/shop/p26380 with padlocks on each side near the bottom and reinforce the door with metal or even plywood epoxied to the back of the door around so that its difficult to prise off.

I have brenton type bolt fitted to the top of the door on the inside, works well and a cheap option. Would work just as well outside with a few good padlock, plus a visible deterrent.

If I suggest it WILL be cheap :)

I think I'll get the Enfield bolts. Pretty diacrete. My concern with bollards, garage efenders and large bolts with padlocks is that shouts 'there's something worth nicking in here'. The Enfield boots look less noticeable.

I think I'm going to paint over the bolt heads, as those 4 bolts on a white garage door is quite noticeable too. Not sure about the key hole cover, might leave it off.
