Hi!

I'm a professional woodworker for over a decade, in the past 3 years i have started doing my own finishing work.
I worked only with air assisted airless system's and sometimes with a conventional gravity feed spray gun.

anyway...I'm really interested in getting one of these hvlp that everyone talks about :p

I've searched around here and find out that there some of you guys using fuji hvlp.

It's the fuji q4 pro worth the $$? or do you guys recommend something else?

Marco, I use the Apollo 700 which I got in Axminster. I'm very happy with mine but I'm not sure that it would be up to full time professional use. It took me a bit of time to get used to using it, but I had no previous experience of any other type of spraying at all. Given you've sprayed before you should have no bother getting up and running.

Hi :)

As you may have read on the forums I've been on a Fuji HVLP learning curve lately. The problems I had were down to the used kit rather than the system.

The Fuji (Q3 in my case) is good and seems built to last. There are a couple of criticisms I still have and I don't know if other systems are better or not.
Biggest one is control of the fan spray pattern. I'm used to a high pressure system with separate air control for the fan meaning you can adjust it to how you like and change it easily during a job. the Fuji gun you screw the air cap on or off to adjust the fan and it does not do much controlling - consequently I did most of my project without fan just to maintain good control.
The other one is that I often felt it should be giving me just a little more air pressure at the gun. I guess the Q4 will be better for that. Using a shorter hose with less pressure drop also improved things over the supplied 7m long hose.

Starting again I'd take a closer look at other makes but might still end up buying a (new this time) Fuji Q4.

Just don't import it from Canada!!

Actually I'm going to import it from the UK ...because I live in Portugal :p

Thanks for the feedback guys! I didn't know about the fan issue, i guess I can live with that. In my AAA system i can change the fan size by changing the tip...and also have fan control.

I'm not going to use it in a professional way, it's hard to beat an AAA system for the large jobs that i make. I'm just looking for something portable mainly because I'm going to a new house next month, and it needs some spray.

Just got it today :p

It seems a pretty decent system. The turbine sound it's pretty good, I had imagined it much louder.

And the gun does have fan control 8)

Cant wait to do some work with it :)

Marco,

Good luck with the new system. Will you let us know how you're getting on with it. Been considering getting one of these too so any feedback is welcomed!!

Will do!

Tomorrow I will test it...sadly I have to finish some very large frames that doesn't fit my booth.

I'll have to improvise a spray room somewhere...

BIG FRAMES

Ok...so i have tested it!

It's professional stuff...but not industrial.

It was placed inside the booth to spray some NC lacker...

It sprayed alright I never sprayed over an hour...and it didn't get warm at all, the incoming air was always cool despite intake temperature was over 22ªc.

It's a good system overall...the noise starts to annoy after sometime...refilling the cup it's a pain and you loose control over the gun with all that weight of a filled cup.

I was not impressed by the atomization at all...i changed for the 1mm fluid set and it get better.

If spraying NC lacker go with the smallest fluid set...the standard one is to big IMO.

It's kinda slow compared to the AAA, even comparing it with my double diaphragm pump with a conventional spray gun...also it's atomization it's the worst of all.

Overall it does a good job, it's a self contained spraying system that only needs a electrical outlet and you're ready to go :)

I really like the gun it looks very well built just expected better atomization. Overspray and transfer efficiency was OK, again not impressed worse than the AAA.

I doubt any of us that replied realised you were looking at an industrial application!

I had a business with a paint shop (powder coating metal) and if we wanted to upgrade anything we would contact a specialist company for suggestions and a quote. I would have thought the same would be true for your application - if you want to do something on industrial scale then you need expert advice.

Nice to have the luxury of that spraying environment.... speaking as a hobbyist :)

Marco,

Thanks for the detailed reply. Some useful thoughts to consider for possible purchase or at least for comparing against other options!

Even though its not "industrial" and has its drawbacks you still seem happy with the purchase!

Happy spraying! :D

Hi!

I was not looking for a shop upgrade :) thankfully I've got 2 great pump systems that are plenty for my necessitys.

like i've said earlier i'm going to use it only in my home...my girlfriend wants me to paint the doors brown

and yes i'm plenty of satisfied with my purchase...i've only took it to the booth because it was a good way to compare it with good equipment.

I never expected it to be the best...my air assisted airless spray gun costs more than the complete fuji system :p
