I do have one of these mounted in my smaller table. I too bought it when they were on a special offer. It is great and certainly powerful enough for most things. It also has the advantage of having a fine height adjuster built in to it.

I believe I heard a rumour that Freud are no longer doing power tools since being bought out and stock currently being sold will be the last and hence the reduced pricings available.

This rumour may be complete rubbish but it might be worth checking out that warranties will be honoured if you buy one as those routers had a tendancy for the variable speed controllers to fail.

Please correct me if I am wrong here - I may well have got the wrong end of the stick but it was a reputable Norfolk machinery dealer who told me this as they are no longer stocking Freud Power Tools.

I was told similarly to Dodge when I tried to find a 240V FT3000. had to settle for a 110V but very happy with it

hmmm...

I like my Freud, and this looks tempting.
But if there is a known fault, then I'm having second thoughts.

How common is the fault ?

I have had mine in a table for about three years now and it still works fine, I can't fault it myself. As for the spares I have a duff Hitachi that needs a new speed module and it is just too expensive to repair so really the same situation.

are there any other similar spec similar priced routers to be thinking about ?

mainly to mount in a table

Have a look at badged copies! - I recently bought an as new Draper Expert Router off ebay for £21 inc postage which is a badged Trend T5 - similar T5s are selling for about £100! I also bought a Lucas 1/2" Router for £35 last week - Brand new and it is a badged old style Makita 3612 but its green not blue!

Keep your eyes open and its amazing what turns up!

I've also got this router set up permanently in a table. A great addition it's been, too. That built-in fine adjuster is certainly a great help. I'd only consider replacing it for one of the more expensive routers which can be adjusted from above the table, through the mounting plate. Otherwise, it's been great, these past four years. Plenty of power for all the rebating, grooving, moulding and tenonning tasks I've thrown at it. ;-)

Screwfix were clearing this model seems like 2 years ago for £99 to make way for the new "redtop" model.
Still looks like a good deal :)

Freud tools were made by Casals and Felisatti - both owned by Russian Interskol group. The freud router will survive, it's a better design than the felisatti - which I have owned but didn't get on with
