Well, it seems the done thing around these parts to share pictures of our endeavors. I've been doing other stuff and the workshop has laid quiet for 5 years. I thought I'd better have some practice on some scraps. I found a bit of timber I'd hacked about a few years ago and cut it into 4 small boards to practice box joints on the Woodrat. Here's what I got...

I originally thought I'd make such a mess of it that it would be scrap. Only it worked quite well. That's when I saw the holster-less notepad by the phone. I set about the box with a big forstner bit...

and then went at it with the Woodrat again to produce a wide slot with a pleasing rounded bottom. Here it is, about 15 minutes after the first picture, with the notepad sitting in it

I have to admit to being highly satisfied with this. It was made to be scrap (I set realistic goals) and it's over-achieved. I wish every project felt this way

Cheers,

Thanks guys, although this is a bit of a non-project really

Next project is to turn this into a coaster, before using some of the same veneer for the lid of a jewellery box for my 8 yr old daughter. This is the veneer that's been stuck with Titebond Liquid Hide Glue that's 5 years out of date and so according to every opinion and experience on the 'net should not have stuck.

I promise the projects will get more interesting soon :D
