Managed a projection onto my hand through binoculars. If I had left it a couple of minutes I might have had a permanent image on my hand. :)

Nice crisp one you got through the welding glass, John. I tried a number 10 glass but it let too much light through. I have some Baader solar filters I made for my bins so I stuck one of those over the camera lens. My camera is an 8 year old point and shoot so I was more than happy with my result.

I spotted this strange affect caused by the sun shining through branches.
Eclipse shadows by maddpete, on Flickr

Only had a wide angle on the camera so no close ups of the sun.

We had a spectular loss of light in Belfast - see BBC News feed - but what they didn't report was the almost instant drop in temperature. Blimey, must have been into double figures. That old star up there sure sends a lot of radiant energy!

Saw nothing but clag here in Exeter, just got a bit darker for a while. Just for the hell of it I stared directly where the sun should have been.....just because everybody was saying you shouldn't

Quite a lot of heat too :?

Do you mean that it dropped to double figures

I have to admit that even although that was about all we got it was quite spectacular..
