i know it's on another site but it's such a good offer i thought i should share it !

I noticed that Woodworking Plans and Projects magazine is heavily promoting it's new website, so i logged on and they are giving away woodworking books ( although is a small p&p charge) looks like a good deal as they are the books i saw at the woodworking shows...

www.woodworkersinstitute.com

The website seems intresting as well, different style to this one as they have divided it up into their differnt magazines which i find handy.

I'm suprised nobody else has started a thread

Chuck

Someone with half a brain could probably have gone undetected.

FWIW, I think F&C's new website is horribly laid out, too busy and holds nothing of any interest to me. It's like one big advert. I won't bother visiting it too much. They've missed the boat on that one.

cant be that good a site if it has to spam other forums to get visitors.
think i visited it before when someone posted something about it.... didnt think much of it then, think less of it now.

having looked at it thats my feeling too - and the free books in question "furniture restoration for begginers" "complete woodfinishing" supposedly worth £15 - bet you only get one, and it doesnt give you the complete list til you register ho hum indeed

these books are probably the sort that are a collection of magazine articles - may be of limited interest to some people but not really "the same books i saw at the shows" unless the only show in question was also run by IWW

I actually singed up for the free book when the site was launched. My order wasn't taken and it appears lots of people are having the same problem. Sounds like another underhand marketing ploy.

Steve - nice bit of detective work - Sherlock Holmes fan??

Perhaps he'll get the hint and "Chuck Off"

Cheers

Karl

Disappointing really, the site is run by GMC; a more subtle approach could have brought them more traffic without the bad feelings.
Still, I guess there's no such thing as bad publicity...

I signed up and the P&P was £4 instead of £3 advertised, they are sending me a different book to the one I ordered. That was about three weeks ago, haven't heard nothing yet.

Agree with the first sentence Terry, but this genius has certainly disproved the second. Maybe he/she went to school with the Meridian *****.

Well when the link for the free book was posted a few weeks ago I signed up, well it was free. I paid £2.95 postage and the book arrived today.

I asked for Making Chairs & Tables volume 2 and BSM is right, it is reprints of a collection of magazine articles, not a bad set but not that helpful with my idea of designing and making some chairs.

I have just been a looked at their web site, the free book offer has obviously got lots of people to register for a book, here are the forum stats:-
Our users have posted 557 Posts in 143 Topics in 20 Forum(s)

But of course having members does not mean they will post.

It is very disappointing as Terry said that GMC have stooped this low, they do produce some good books but I think they are shifting the stock they have left after the sale didn't.

Hi,

I paid £2.95 and mine came today, Making Chairs & Tables volume 2 as well looked the best of the bunch.

Actually I must retract this comment as my book turned up today.

Oddly, I also went for Chairs and Tables and read it earlier. I'm glad it only cost £3.00 because it was basically a magazine without the adverts! Nothing inspiring in there (not that I want to take away from the skill of the craftsman).

may be admin can complain to GMC about our spamming "freind" ? - like merideene the other day i bet spamming forums isnt part of their official marketing strategy

Someone from here complained on their forum the other night, but the only response they got - at least that I saw - was that the thread was deleted!

I know some of the GMC head shed as ive done some writing for them ( though on photography rather than woodwork) - if spamchuck does it again i'll have a word in their shell like.

I thought it was amusingly inept.

Me too

I rather imagine a 19 year old "Marketing Manager" thinking he was smarter that us cynical old gits on this forum.
