I have had the the Elektra Beckum HC260M for about a year now and generally I am very pleased with it.

There are two minor niggles though.

The fence, which only attaches to the main body via one support is not terribly stable and has to be constantly checked. I spoke to someone in E-B's technical department about this and he admitted it was not a totally satisfactory design.

The other irritation is that the chip collection in thicknesser mode is only about 50% effective.

Record PT260. Green coloured clone of a few others with teflony non-stick stuff on planer tables. Gimmick! It looks like the "teflon" was sprayed on in a sawmill. Not so bad now it has been de-bibbed!

Planer tables aren't flat and it took a lot of tweaking to get something decent out of it. If the steel roll pins locating the infeed table are fitted in their holes they pull the table out of square.

Roller marks on thicknessed stock a lot of the time but I always finish by hand anyway.

To be honest I'm just a perfectionist that wants Felder accuracy for Record prices so I'd say I got what I paid for and shouldn't expect more than I did get.

Did I mention having to file the surface of the inboard end of the tables in way of the slots to get them flat??.......

Thanks, Dom.

Also thanks for reminding me about this thread - I've now (finally!) bought a thicknesser myself and I've forgotten to add it

Makita 2012NB - worth the wait! :D

Although there is one missing Neil, is it going to be Blue or Grey?

Noel

My money is on Blue, Noely - how about yours? I think we might find out after the weekend...

Yip, I'd go with that. Something with letters similar to the best Irish Ice Cream?

Noel, who loves Ice Bergers, A B C D E F G H B!

Thanks, Mike - I had to look that one up. Just checking, it is a thickness planer rather than a jointer, isn't it?

Hi Neil, Yep, it's a planer. No, it's a molder. No, wait, it's a gang saw and drum sander...Actually it is all of them.

Mostly used for planing. But comes in handy for running molding for a lumber yard or two when they need to match historical patterns. Change the head out for the gang rip saws (usually run either 2-3 6" blades) depending on the stock, change the head to the molding profiles and run the stock.

0-16 feet per minute at 70 to 1000 (that's 1,000) cuts per inch. Here's a link:

The new avatar picture is from their website. Mine isn't pretty anymore. We've had it for either 2 or 3 years. Paid for itself within one.

EB HC260

Very impressed with performance and results.

Latest version has the switches in a more accessable position and the adjustment handle for the thicknesser in a better position also, both of which are good enhancements, but otherwise great !

Just in the process of using the planer to tidy up some second hand oak flooring that was otherwise destined for somebodies bonfire  and it's strangely satisfying rather than bieng a chore.

Guess I ought to get out more !!!

i own a record pt260 p/t, and i can say without doubt it is the worst machine i own, i only use if for planing, as the setup between planing and thicknessing is painfull. The tables are a long way from flat and i don't have the skills (or time) to fix them. Adjustments are very difficult to do with any degree of accuracy (i still can't get the infeed and outfeed tables parallel across the entire width of the beds). I am also fortunate enough to own a dewalt 733 for thicknessing - a superb machine - i will never buy a record machine again. I also agree with what all the other guys say, regarding records instructions - i don't know why they bother at all with them.

Enough ranting - does anyone want to buy a record pt260? :)
