Indeed, or they may just give up this forum. I posted on another forum for a short while before finding this one. Now I don't post on the other one as I prefer it here. The folks on the other forum may conclude that I am another statistical "lost interest" when I have merely shifted my online allegiance.
In general though I think it is true that a lot of people try a hobby for a time, decide it is not for them and move on, and that is reflected in the traffic on any forum on any subject.
