Hi folks

I've decided to sell my bandsaw. Only 12 months old and had little use. Still got 4 years remaining on the Record warranty.

DSCF1554.jpg

Comes with the MDF stand (on castors, so easily manouvered - I did away with the original stand as it was crap), but not with the compressor or hose :D

New cost is £500, so i'm looking for £350.

Collection only.

Cheers

whats the max depth of cut, throat, power rating etc ? (thinking of upgrading my little rexon which tho its a nice saw isnt up to what i want to do )

BSM - the max blade under the guides is a touch over 9". Throat is 13 1/2". Power is 1450 (input), 230v.

Cheers

Karl

cheers karl but i think i'll pass - talking to swimbo she reckons that if i'm going to upgrade i may as well get a big one rather than upgrade to yours then want to upgrade again in a year or so

No worries BSM. I was going to suggest we talk about a deal with me taking your Rexon off you - i'm looking for a smaller bandsaw.

Cheers anyway.

If SWIMBO's going to twist both your arms to get a bigger bandsaw, which one are you going for? - Rob

I'll bear you in mind when i replace my bandsaw - i'd be looking for about 50 quid for the rexon as and when ( i paid blister 80 two years ago - and it was his old boys from new before that)

Hi BSM

I've sold the bandsaw now, and done a deal with a forum member on his Dewalt 738. We should be having an exchange of machines/cash tomorrow.

Cheers

I'm thinking one of the big axminsters, or may be an electra beckum - i'm looking at spending circa 700 notes but might go second hand to get the most for my money (looking at axi returns too)

Sounds like you've got the right idea, Pete, with second hand bandsaws. Also look out for the Startrite machines. The 352 seems to be a favourite amongst many woodworkers. It offers an impressive depth of cut/height under the guides. Only thing I don't like about them is the size of the table and relatively 'narrow' throat width, in comparison to the DOC.

Pete, bugger off, I'm also on the lookout for a large axminster, jet or even an old startrite if I can get it for the right price ;) Tho tbh I think Domino is higher on my list of NEEDS.

I'm really happy with my Axminster AP5300, definitely recommended.

charming ;)

numerous startrites here http://www.gandmtools.co.uk/cat_branch.php?sub=35 enough that i can share the tip even with a slap headed back whinger  (mainly because i know he cant lift one and even if he could it wont fit in a smart car :D :D)

thing is they all seem to be three phase - does anyone know how hard it would be to swap the motor on one of these for a 240v - on would it make more sense to use an inverter ?

Dead easy to swap. It's just a standard 1hp foot mounted motor, and all the wiring is already in place for 3-phase, so you just have to lose one wire and you're there. BUT, you'll need new switchgear, as the contacts and overload are rated for 1/3 of the current that single phase will need. Though I did run mine for a while by parallelling contacts on the 3-phase overload. Not recommended practice!

And if you are looking for one, go for the later type with external switchgear, as otherwise there is only one make (Danfoss, I think) that fits properly inside the column.

But they are SUPER machines. Mine will be included in my will - it will certainly outlast me :)

You don't even need to swap out the motor.....

huh ? - you do unless youve got a three phase supply or an inverter - surely , or am i missing summat

yeh you can use an inverter, as demonstrated by Bob 9fingers. It's a toss up between finding a motor that fits both the bandsaw case and the pulley or keeping your eyes peeled for an inverter. Bob says they go for between 80-100 if you keep looking. Simples.

that sounds like a plan - especially as i could then look for a three phase lathe later if i wanted to - like a graduate bowl turner, plus all sorts of other three phase goodness ( i saw a nice wadkin planer on ebay for example ) - i may need a bigger 'shop

Were do the inverters go for 80-100? I assume it might be ebay, but there must be other places as well? If I could get one for that sort of money I would seriously consider it.

Regards,

Michael
