They are very good. I had one of those and used it a lot until it eventually packed up; now use the removable liner on a single portable electric hot plate. It's a shame the virtues of hot hide glue are now so underrated;

-clamp free rub jointed butt joints,

-reversibility or simply the ability to just warm a joint and reclamp if it is not quite square

-lack of resistance to finishes so you don't get those pale marks where you failed to clean off the PVA squeeze out properly.

+1000...especially on set guitar necks...

Ever tried to fix a warped neck that has been epoxied, PVAd or aliphatically set in place....NIGHTMARE!

Yep Jim...

I straightened a warped neck with cauls and a G clamp, over the heat from a Valour Paraffin stove.

I hadn't a clue really, but it worked. The guitar is now 50+ years old and still sounds great!

I still use animal glue on occasion, melted in a baby's bottle warmer, it's great stuff for trims etc where you can't clamp and don't want brad holes showing. Hold in place for ten seconds and it's done. Plus I like the smell!
