I mentioned this in another thread but thought to post it independently to give it a proper airing.
It seems as though there are a number of people struggling to develop a web presence. Google (being the one search engine that everyone goes after) delivers results based on two key criteria:
1. Importance.
2. Relevance.
The latter is largely a product of QUALITY links to your site. Quality, in terms of "relevance" means other sites of a similar topic or purpose. (Quality is, as I understand it, also buffered by the site's kudos too - e.g. get a link from Amazon and that's worth more than a link from a.n.other.com).
However, forgetting the kudos aspect for the time being... It strikes me that there's a lot of business members who are not in direct competition by area or possibly slight variations in their customer proposition, therefore could benefit from reciprocal linking between sites.
If you're running a joinery business and think there is some mileage in this say "aye".
