They were expensive but so conveniently located. They've already been bought out once.

No doubt some bottom fisher will pick up the pieces. Peter, hopefully your wife's position will become clearer and will continue. Sometimes TUPE is your friend.

They were expensive ............

True but much less so than Homebase who are also located in local towns now B&Q has moved to the large out of town / city warehouses.

Homebase near use is fine if you want a selection of scatter cushions or garden ornaments but useless for a bag of 1" screws.

Real shame - is it too late to be saved?

Just had a browse their and this caught my eye,

Customer orders

* At present no new customer orders can be placed for any goods to be ordered to store or home delivery.

* At this stage we are unable to release any outstanding customer orders or give a refund

Does this mean that if any customer had ordered somthing they will now lose their money, I sure am glad i have not oredered anything from them..

Cheers

Dave

Re : customer orders.

Yes, its true. The staff can't understand why they cannot release stock where available to fulfil orders. The customers instead have to ring a helpline that the administrators have setup.
There have been some nasty situations in some stores apparently. I suppose it's because of some rule of administration. Still, it's ***** all round really.

Hanser : Yes, there's nothing to be done now, so we'll just have to see. We were a lot happier to find out about the rules about handling staff in these situations. I thought she might be straight out the door....

They were expensive for some things, but certainly not everything. Academic now though.

Just read the following release:
Kingfisher plc announces that following the appointment of administrators at Focus DIY Limited and Do It All Limited it has agreed to buy up to 31 leasehold properties for £23 million in cash. B&Q, Kingfisher's largest UK subsidiary, plans to start the process of refitting the vacant properties and opening them as new B&Q stores later in the year.
