Hello guy's, wonder if anyone can help, I need a cheap blade which will produce a flat backed slot. Can anyone tell me for sure if screwfix titan and/or freud pro ripping type blades will do this ? Any help appreciated .....pete

Screwfix were selling off some of their Titan range this time last year, I picked up 4No. 305mm x 24/40 tooth blades for £7.99 ea. then had D B Kieghleys sharpening guy put a flat tooth grind on one of them for use in a box joint jig, cost about £12.00 as I recall.

Thanks for replies ,is appreciated. Will look at each option.I was led to believe rip saw type blade had a combination type tooth pattern that would produce flat kerf. Myfordman ,hope you don't mind me asking as I remember you asked this originally -are all teeth ground flat ?,cost? JSW ,are all teeth on your blade ground flat? Thanks again......peteglider

Yes mate, ground flat across the top of the teeth, so that in use in a box joint jig the cut is flat, rather than the ^^^^^ effect you would normally expect to happen.

Sorry I can't remember the price but it was good value at the time and massive tips so plenty of life for sharpening which you don't always get with budget makes.
It was about 200 mm with a strange sized bore but Doug supplied a reducing ring which I epoxyied in place.

I was wondering is there any compromise faced with flat or triple chip ground blades? Are they more prone to tear out or some other ailment?

Are not all rip blades flat ground? My Felder one certainly is.
