Just thought some of you may like to see this, feel free to comment. I realise it is not high end furniture making but this is only for storing firewood in the garden (fit for purpose!), and given that I have many many other more furniture related projects still incomplete or not started, I need to get this done asap! :)

I have never made anything like this before so please be kind!

The roof will be made from left over feather edge fence strips, overlapped as per the fence I made so that the rain water runs off. I will be making an extension to the shed base using the same flags/pavers to create a decent base for it to sit on and prevent the legs from rotting away.

It wont be attached to the shed and there will be a gap between the two, so once the water runs off it goes onto the flags. The flags have channels between them for water to run away in between them and into the ground/earth.

So no, I dont think it will be a problem. But in any case it is better to have the higher part of the roof nearest to you when collecting wood from or putting wood into the store.

Looking good. Reminds me I have to build our log store this year sometime. I'm lucky enough to have a wall to build against so construction should be a bit simpler. Personally, I really like seeing these construction type projects. Most people will just see a bunch of wood screwed together but another wood worker will see the effort that has gone into building something that will last.

Thanks wobblycogs, it is quite obviously a construction job but nonetheless it is still fun to make! Speed is of the essence here hence the screws. Yes, I can make mortice & tenons but it just isnt justified here in my humble opinion and it would have taken much longer even with a morticer and then having to prepare a large number of tenons. After all it is just a log store and will be for the most parts out of sight.

I dont know about you guys but this weekend was flipping cold! Good job we've got an open fire! Now, I know it's only a firewood store, but here it is anyway in it's almost complete state. My father-in-law helped with laying the flags and putting the roof on. I told him about Lee's comments and he thought it was a good idea to have some sort of rainwater collection, hence the guttering, and this can possibly now be fed into a water butt and if not we can run it into the ground. So thanks for the input Lee!
