My Firefox browser has suddenly developed a strange problem.
When I open it, everything appears to load ok, and I get the message 'Done' bottom left. However the loading window bottom right won't completely fill, and I can do nothing with the browser but look at it. I have to close it and re-open, sometimes a number of times before it is fully loaded and useable.

I reinstalled it, but it's made no difference.
I could de-install altogether and install afresh, but if I de-install I lose all my favourites.

I was told the favourites folder is in the Firefox folder, but despite opening every folder in the Firefox main folder, I can find nothing named 'Favourites'. (Or Favorites!)

Does anyone have a little clue? Is it Firefox, or a glitch in my Windows install?

This isn't happening with any other browser.

Firefox is my default browser.

Cheers and TIA

John :)

In Firefox they are "Bookmarks" not "Favourites".

If it hangs on loading try clicking the "Refresh" button which is the circular arrow in the toolbar.

If you reload I don't think you will lose your Bookmarks but try the above first.

Some sites are slow either because they are badly constructed or heavily accessed.

Is your computer housekeeping up to date?e.g.Defrag?

EDIT: If you are worried about losing your bookmarks you can save them to a file and then do a complete reinstall and recover them from the saved file.

Is it the browser or site? Does it do the same regardless of site? If it's the browser then try disabling all your add-ons and try again. If it solves the problem re-enable the add-ons one by one until you find the one that reintroduces the problem.

The browser does this hang-up on first opening. So it's my home page that I can't use. I can see my home page, and the cursor blinking in the search bar. I can't use the mouse at all except to close the browser with the 'X'. I.e nothing works, until I close and reopen the browser, sometimes more than once!

I defrag every month.
I use a 'junk-cleaner' program every month. I delete stuff I have saved for a purpose, after I finish using it. I keep all files I need to keep on CDR discs. I wouldn't say I am paranoid about housekeeping, but I do know it helps the PC to run better!

So, Is there a quick way to save Bookmarks? Aside from dragging them to the desktop and into a folder?

Thanks for the replies chaps I am obliged and I'll look into the plug-ins!

But do you delete the files and clean your Cache folder?

Thanks Ray..
Done!

It could be my Provider, but not Virgin. I am with AOL (Now Talk-Talk). Just as bad.

I just moved over to IE for a while, and no problems with that.

I think I'll de install Firfox and reinstall completely.

Thanks fellas

John,
It could be an add on problem, try disabling one at a time and restarting.

Jeff.
Edit: It could also be a problem with Adblock Plus with a script loaded, I have to disable mine when using rutlands site.

Its probably an incompatable add in go to tools menu, click on general tab and then on manage add ons. Disable each add on one by one and see how page loads some flash content may not work but pages should load better. Often an update needs an add on update as well to work correctly

Hi Folks,

The problem seems to have gone away, since I installed the latest Adobe 'Flash Player'. Why that should affect plain-text browser content I don't know, but it has worked!
Thanks one and all for your welcome assists.

Regards
John :)

Typical,I might of mentioned that but it wasn't in my head at the time.

The other problem with firefox and Adobe Flash Player was that it crashed the browser.

If I could chip in a Firefox niggle that I'm having?

If I have a link in, say, an email and click on it, Firefox won't open up and display it. I have to physically open a window in FF and have it waiting there, then go back to the email link and click again.

Thanks

I use a dedicated e-mail client (Forte's "Agent") and I need to double-click on my links in an e-mail to fire up Firefox and display the page.
